Visiting Fellow to National Cancer Centre, Tokyo
Visited the National Cancer Centre, Tokyo, the leading international centre of excellence in the management of Gastric Cancer (2004).
Academic activity:
Attended the regular wardrounds, Combined Surgery, Gastroenterology and Radiology meeting.
Participated in the 17th International Symposium of Foundation for Promotion of Cancer Research.
Operative Exposure:
Watched various gastric resections especially the D2 lymphadenectomy. Also observed three field lymphadenectomy in oesophageal cancer and Endscopic submucosal dissection for early gastric cancer.
Honorary Consultant Bariatric Surgeon,
Homerton University Hospital, London
I was appointed as a Honorary Consultant Bariatirc Surgeon at the Homerton University Hospital since May 2007 to December 2008. During this period I have been involved in all aspects of care to obese patients which include the clinics, MDT , theatre and post-operative care with active supervision from my mentor MR K Mannur.
Operative Experience:
During this period I have assisted in at least 50 cases of Gastric Banding, Gastric Bypass and Sleeve Gstrectomies. I have also performed at least another 30 of these procedures independently under supervision.
Visit to Bariatric Centre at Fresno, USA
I visited Dr Higa and Dr Boone in their World leading centre of Bariatric surgery.
They have performed more than 8000 Bariatric procedures and last year performed more than 900. I had the full opportunity to discuss with them the finer details of Gastric Bypass technique and how to achieve no leak rate.
Obesity Surgery Clinical Immersion Programme, Belgium
Visited Dr B Dellemans at Brugge who is one of the leading Bariatric Surgeons in the World. Spent three days with him especially in theatre, especially performing and assisting him in theatre. During this time we had extensive discussion in the finer details of surgical techniques and how to standardise the technique and minimise complications.
