My surgery story

This was my 3rd attempt at losing weight by surgery along with all the other trusted and tried methods. Nothing worked. My first surgery was about 12 years ago with another surgeon. I had a gastric band which worked for about two years but was totally unsustainable. I had lots of problems mainly acid reflux. In 2018 I decided to have the band removed and opted for a gastric sleeve done by the same surgeon and to my utmost disappointment found that this also didn’t work. I quickly gained more weight than I ever started with and was very depressed. I didn’t want to go out and certainly didn’t want to even get dressed as I felt so huge and uncomfortable. All I can say is thank goodness for lockdown. But then I piled even more weight on. I was absolutely desperate but fortunate was highly recommended to Professor Senapati. And, let me tell you I’m so glad I found him!

I was actually in the depths of despair and this lovely man saved my life literally. Obviously my 3rd revision surgery wasn’t going to be straightforward and as you can imagine I was really anxious as by now I had extreme acid reflux and a hernia. However the professor assured me that all would be well and he was correct. My surgery did take longer than normal but he had so much work to do inside as apparently I was a mess with lots of scar tissue to contend with. I actually didn’t have a clue about this until I awoke from surgery with the professor stood beside my bed informing me that the surgery was a marathon. Bless him 😊 But, I wasn’t phased and also I wasn’t in pain and my acid reflux had completely disappeared. I was ecstatic from that very moment as I just knew the professor had done a great job. How right I was as you can see. A year to the surgery date I have lost 34 kilos and feel fantastic. I am now a size 8-10 from 16-18.

My confidence has returned and I LOVE wearing clothes again. There is no better feeling each day when I can literally throw on a pair of size 8 jeans and a tea shirt and be comfortable all day. I’m fact lots of people don’t recognise me and tell me I look 20 years younger but I’ll let you be the judge of that. I’m 53. 😊

So please don’t hesitate to consult with the Professor. Besides being the ultimate and talented surgeon he is he’s also a lovely caring man who will only have your interest and well being at heart. Deciding on this last surgery was the hardest decision I’ve had to make but boy did I make the right one. My life has changed for the better and I hope yours does too.
